TMI Education and Gravity Goldberg, LLC are proud to launch The Literacy Alliance for the 2016-2017 school year. The Literacy Alliance provides school districts with a community-based, comprehensive and sustained professional development solution to promote exemplary K-12 literacy practices.

As a member of the 2016-2017 Literacy Alliance, your district will have access to an extensive collection of membership benefits, including:

  • 10+ premium grade level-specific K-12 workshopsdesigned for K-12 teachers and educational leaders - and - totaling nearly 500 PD credit hours!
  • Bimonthly after school literacy study group sessions, organized around “hot topics” in literacy instruction

2016-2017 Literacy Alliance Workshop Offerings

The 2016-2017 Literacy Alliance workshop schedule will is currently available. As is our customary practice, all program of offerings will align to current NJDOE mandates and iniatives, research-based best pedagogical practices and member feedback. The 2016-2017 workshop offerings will include the following:

  • Teaching Vocabulary in Meaningful and Powerful Ways
  • Differentiating Reading and Writing Instruction to Meet the Needs of All Learners
  • Supporting Classrooms with Deep Independent Reading
  • Beyond Grades: Feedback and Assessments That Support Student Motivation and Growth in Writing, Gr. K-2 and Gr. 3-8
  • Content Area Literacy Strategies: Helping Students Develop Close Reading and Writing All Day Long, Gr. K-3 and Gr. 4-8
  • Inquiry and Research: Practical ways to help students develop curiosity and conduct research
  • Overcoming Communication Barriers with Parents and Schools
  • How to Create Classrooms of Caring and Inquisitive Readers, Writers and Storytellers
  • Persuasive, Informational and Narrative Writing in the Secondary Classroom, Gr. 7-12
  • Getting “Close” with Literary and Informational Text, Gr. 7-12


2016-2017 Literacy Alliance Membership Information

 Membership Fee - $8,500 (allows for up to 6 seats/workshop and all other membership benefits)

And the benefits don’t end there! As a member-district of The Literacy Alliance you can have access to an additional 500 professional development hours through the TMI Professional Learning Consortium. As a member of the TMI Consortium your staff will have access to development programs in support of topics including, but not limited to: effective leadership, NextGen Science Standards, curriculum renewal, PARCC, new mandates, the new NJ Curriculum Standards, C3 Social Studies, beginning educator support academies, Dyslexia and The Reading Brain, Google Apps for Education, and more - all for a discounted single annual fee of $3,500!

This means that member districts in The Literacy Alliance that also join the TMI Consortium can have access to over 1,000 professional development credit hours for only $12,000 - that’s less than $14 per PD credit hour. Now, that’s the power of community-based professional learning!

As a community-based initiative, The Literacy Alliance invites all member-districts to participate as active stakeholders in the framework process. This means we highly encourage and welcome input from each member-district in ensuring our framework will meet, and satisfy, the needs and expectations of each respective member-district as well as the collective community of member-districts as a whole. Feedback from member-district leadership and their staff is critical to achieving the collective goals and objectives of The Literacy Alliance.

Each member district may have up to 6 teachers participate in each of the 12+ sessions throughout the 2016-2017 school year. The individual teacher(s) attending each session is at the discretion of the member-district.
