State and federal law are rapidly evolving for students with disabilities. In this workshop, participants will learn about the latest federal and state legislation, statutory/regulatory changes, case law, and guidance related to meeting the needs of students with disabilities.
Specific topics to be addressed include the following:
The impact of recent federal policy directives and executive orders;
Lessons to be learned from recent case law;
The latest legislation and guidance from the U.S. and New Jersey Departments of Education, including mediation and due process hearings, nursing services, reevaluations, and other guidance impacting the delivery of special education and related services;
Key considerations related to disparities in identification and discipline rates for students in various racial and ethnic groups;
Key elements to consider including in IEPs; and
New and proposed legislation, and other hot legal issues, including school avoidance and virtual or home instruction options for students with disabilities.
