This session will include the latest legislation and guidance on determining the need for and extent of compensatory
services for all students with disabilities.
Specific topics to be addressed include the following:
The key elements to consider including in IEPs moving forward;
The supports that may be necessary for students;
Lessons to be learned from recent case law;
Key considerations related to disparities in identification and discipline rates for African American students;
The latest legislation and guidance from the U.S. and New Jersey Departments of Education; and
New and proposed legislation, and issues that have arisen or been exacerbated in recent years, including school avoidance, additional instruction and services, and virtual or home instruction options for students with disabilities.
